Health Language Selected by Banner Health to Assess Risk and Ease ICD-10 Conversion Pressures
DENVER, CO (December 4, 2013) — Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that Banner Health has selected its Health Language® solutions to successfully navigate the complex ICD-10 conversion process.
Banner Health, one of the largest nonprofit hospital systems in the country, and Banner Health Network, Banner Health’s Accountable Care Organization, will use the Health Language LEAP I-10 solution to understand the impact of ICD-10 on their DRG-based reimbursement programs, and help them mitigate that risk and prepare for the ICD-10 transition through documentation improvement, coder education, template updates, list mapping & systems remediation.
Health Language solutions will enable Banner Health to normalize their data by creating clinically equivalent relationships between ICD-9 and ICD-10. The normalized data set will enable Banner Health’s current systems to facilitate longitudinal reporting for more than 20,000 decision support reports across the ICD-9 and ICD-10 code sets. The list mapping capabilities in LEAP I-10 will further be utilized to remediate the network’s claim adjudication system.
“Banner Health is taking a proactive stance with our ICD-10 transition strategies to ensure that we not only cross the finish line successfully but are positioned to leverage the full potential of the new coding system,” said Dennis Dahlen, Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer, Banner Health. “Health Language applications ensure we are able to address potential risk areas early, enhance documentation practices and build strategies around new opportunities.”
“As the ICD-10 deadline fast approaches, successful implementations will reflect a deep understanding of the new code set’s far-reaching impact on clinical, financial and ancillary operations,” said Brian McDonald, Vice President, Health Language, Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions. “We are pleased to help a leading healthcare provider like Banner Health navigate this complex process and address the bigger picture of the conversion.”
