IASIS Healthcare Selects UpToDate® as Clinical Decision Support Tool for Its Hospitals
Waltham, Mass. (June 8, 2010) — UpToDate, a part of Wolters Kluwer Health, announced today that it has been selected by IASIS Healthcare® LLC (“IASIS”) to provide clinical decision support in IASIS’ 16 US hospitals. Wolters Kluwer Health is a leading provider of information and business intelligence for students, professionals and institutions in medicine, nursing, allied health and pharmacy.
Located in Franklin, Tennessee, IASIS is a leading owner and operator of medium-sized acute care hospitals in high-growth urban and suburban markets in Arizona, Texas, Utah, Nevada, Louisiana and Florida. The Company operates its hospitals with a strong community focus by offering and developing healthcare services targeted to the needs of the markets it serves, promoting strong relationships with physicians and working with local managed care plans. In support of those goals, IASIS has chosen UpToDate as its primary point-of-care decision support tool.
“IASIS has a proven track record of utilizing health information technology to improve its overall delivery of patient care and safety, and our decision to partner with UpToDate is another example of how we are providing our physicians and healthcare professionals with cutting-edge tools and resources,” said Tedd Adair, IASIS vice president of clinical operations. “We are extremely pleased with this partnership and feel confident that the UpToDate software is a tremendous benefit to the many communities we serve.”
UpToDate is an evidence-based resource providing fast, accurate clinical answers to physicians and other medical professionals at the point of care. It includes more than 8,300 topics in 16 medical specialties, a complete drug database (in partnership with Lexi-Comp®) and over 385,000 Medline references. Created by authors, editors and peer reviewers from leading medical institutions, UpToDate monitors a wide range of source materials — including more than 440 medical journals, guidelines published by major and international societies, and other resources — to ensure the most recent findings are continuously incorporated into its content.
Research has shown use of UpToDate at hospitals is associated with improved patient safety, fewer complications and shorter length of stay. Over 12,000 facilities in 147 countries leverage UpToDate to improve patient care.
"UpToDate is trusted by thousands of hospitals worldwide to provide current, evidence-based clinical information,” said Denise S. Basow, MD, President and Editor-in-Chief of UpToDate. “We are pleased that IASIS has chosen UpToDate as their point-of-care reference tool to further their mission of providing high-quality, cost-effective healthcare in the communities they serve.”
