UpToDate Adds Dermatology as a Specialty
Electronic Clinical Decision Support Resource Serving Healthcare Practitioners and Patients Now Covers 21 Medical Specialties
Waltham, Mass. – (February 28, 2013) – Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that it has added Dermatology to UpToDate®, its evidence-based clinical decision support resource, marking the 21st medical specialty included in an UpToDate subscription.
The addition of Dermatology is the result of over three years of collaboration led by Dr. Jeffrey Callen, Editor-in-Chief of UpToDate in Dermatology. Callen led a team of leading dermatologists to expand and build dermatology content in all major areas — including medical, pediatric and dermatologic surgery.
UpToDate’s dermatology content is ideal for researching less common disorders and treatments, pediatric issues, and drug reactions. Physicians in other specialties, including rheumatologists and those specializing in allergy and immunology, will also find UpToDate’s dermatology content indispensable.
In a recent beta test of the content, dermatology professionals found that UpToDate answered nearly 90 percent of their questions.* As with all UpToDate content, the Dermatology specialty includes peer-reviewed, evidence-based recommendations that reflect the latest medical advances and practices from over 450 medical journals, including Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Archives of Dermatology, British Journal of Dermatology and the New England Journal of Medicine.
“Working with a team of respected leaders in dermatology over the last three years, we have dramatically expanded and enhanced the actionable dermatology content in UpToDate. The new specialty truly encompasses views from across all disciplines,” said Callen.
Denise Basow, M.D., Vice President/General Manager and Editor-in-Chief, UpToDate at Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions commented on the added specialty, “UpToDate is focused on developing the breadth and depth of our medical content to ensure clinicians feel equipped to provide the very best care.” Basow adds, “For dermatologists and other healthcare practitioners alike, the addition of a Dermatology specialty affirms our commitment to providing the most comprehensive, evidence-based recommendations available for treating patients.”
