Wolters Kluwer, American Heart Association Extend Long-Term Publishing Partnership
Wolters Kluwer, a leading global provider of information and point of care solutions for the healthcare industry, today announced it has extended its successful publishing partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA). In place for nearly two decades, the longstanding partnership has evolved beyond traditional print publishing to include web and mobile platforms, as well as open access.
Eleven AHA Journals are part of the Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW) journal portfolio, including six Circulation specialty journals that were added in 2008. Under the partnership, which started in 1998, publishing services have expanded to include iPad® apps for each journal, which have been downloaded more than 133,000 times since their introduction.
“The successful long-standing partnership between the AHA and Wolters Kluwer has led to numerous innovations that expanded our portfolio beyond traditional print publishing to include mobile technologies that enable delivery of groundbreaking research and editorial content directly to our subscribers when and where they need it,” said Gayle R. Whitman, PHD, RN, FAAN, FAHA, Senior Vice President, Science Operations, AHA Journals. “As we look ahead to the next decade, we are confident that this partnership will grow stronger and more innovative as we continue to work together to expand access and heighten our reputation among clinicians ad researchers.”
In recent years, the publishing services provided by LWW to AHA Journals further evolved with the introduction of an open access option for funders and researchers worldwide who wish to make their articles available to non-subscribers. In 2014 alone, there were 58 million journal downloads and published articles were cited 363,000 times.
“Collaboratively, we have leveraged shifting market forces such as the now near-ubiquitous nature of smartphones and other mobile devices and the rising demand for open access to grow the reach and recognition of the AHA publishing program,” said Jayne Marks, Vice President of Publishing with Health Learning, Research and Practice at Wolters Kluwer. “We will continue to do so over the next decade as we collaborate to support the AHA’s mission to ‘build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke’.”
